Fire sprinkler systems that aren\u2019t properly and regularly maintained are susceptible to corrosion. Typically, 5 year sprinkler inspections include an internal pipe inspection to check for any corrosion or other obstructions. If corrosion is addressed in the early stages, it will require substantially less work, treatment, and replacement.<\/p>\n

\"\"Both wet and dry pipes are susceptible to corrosion, and should be inspected on a regular basis to spot any corrosion in the early stages. Corrosion can occur in both wet and dry pipe systems if there is both water and oxygen present. There are many other factors that contribute to corrosion including the temperature range of the area, pressure in the pipes and materials used in construction.<\/p>\n

If corrosion occurs, nitrogen inerting can be performed. Nitrogen inerting is the process of diluting and displacing oxygen from the fire sprinkler using nitrogen. In wet pipe systems, this is done before the pipes are filled with water again, greatly reducing the oxygen levels to prevent further corrosion. In dry pipe systems, the nitrogen replaces all the oxygen, as they are kept dry unless activated by a fire threat.<\/p>\n
