Between the years 2014 and 2018, United States Fire Departments responded to 353,100 home fires each year. These fires caused 2,620 civilian deaths each year. 27% of fires that occurred in 2014-2018 occurred in homes. The top causes of home fires were:

- Electrical distribution/ lighting equipment
- Intentional fire setting
- Smoking materials
